Marketing Created the Greatest Walk-Out Song for the Greatest Closer of All-Time
Nobody should keep this information to themselves... I just learned that "Enter Sandman" was NOT Mariano Rivera's idea.
It was the New York Yankees marketing department that came up with this sweet idea.
I don't know why every college marketing program doesn't use this to increase enrollment numbers.
And, if you were wondering, Deadspin credits Sparky Lyle back in 1972 as having the first walk-up song. Though @Medium credits The Chicago White Sox organist Nancy Faust as the originator.
Keep that info in your pocket. Baseball is right around the corner.
BONUS: And if you want to get the arm hair straight up, here's Mariano Rivera's final walkout to Enter Sandman at Yankee Stadium.
